"Go sleep"

Lorelai made me nap yesterday.

She grabbed my hand and led me over to the couch. She pulled the quilt over me and handed me a stuffed toy. She then patted my head and said "Go sleep." I asked for a hug and a kiss, and she answered with her trademark "Shure." She then made me lay back down and said "Go sleep." I asked her to sing me a song, but that was answered with "No song. Nigh, nigh."

I pretended to sleep because she was so cute.

Favorite Animal

Lorelai is roaring in Noni's kitchen.

Me: "Lorelai, what are you doing?"
LEL: "I'm Simba. Rooooooaaaarrrrr!"
Chris: "Are lions your favorite animal?"
LEL: "Uh huh."
Grandad: "Do you know what my favorite animal is?"
LEL: "Uh huh."
Grandad: "You do? What is it?"
LEL: "Hippo!"

It was incorrect, but I suspect we all like hippos a little more now because of her.

Naked Caterpillar

Lorelai loves to point out any form of nakedness. If Adalaide is wearing just a shirt and her diaper is showing, she's naked. If Chris changes his shirt after work, he's naked. If Phoebe has her collar off, she's naked. Today we hit a new level of nakedness. This stacking caterpillar toy, I was informed, is naked.

Let Her Eat Cake

My aunt visited this past week and, as usual, my mom made a huge dinner with dessert (actually I think my youngest sister, Caroline, made the dessert); carrot cake. Our 4-person Lewis group headed over to their house for dinner and left over dessert a couple of days later. Lorelai was excited to have more cake.
Her Aunt Hannah cut a slice and let her carry it on a little plate back to the familyroom. She dropped the fork and looked down on the floor to find it and the slice of cake slid off the plate and plopped on the floor as well. Their dachshund lunged for the cake, but Hannah stopped him...and then stepped on the fork. She then reacted, and limped away from the cake. Their beagle then saw the window of opportunity and swooped in to eat the cake off the floor.

While this all unraveled in 20 seconds, I looked up at Lorelai. She just stood there, clutching her little plate by her chest, watching the craziness play out in front of her. Once her little brain quickly processed the events, she looked up at me and simply uttered in a soft, concerned voice: "My cake...."

Love, love, LOVE her. ♥

Phoebe's New "Hat"

Phoebe is having more eye issues, and required a back-to-back visits to the vet this week. She now has an e-collar and is bumping into everything....whining. She scrapes our ankles, legs, etc. 14hrs in and we are already tired of it. Anyway:

This morning Lorelai was eating her breakfast at the coffee table and Phoebe was on the couch behind her. The collar scraped across LEL's back as Phoebe was trying to smell her food. LEL shivers from the sensation and says quickly, "Aw, man" knowing the dog was near. Her exasperation was priceless.

Thank You God for m&m's

We were trying to teach Lorelai a prayer before meal time...well, this time is was before her dessert. She seem super thankful for her mini m&m's so we were teaching her what to say:

Us: God is great
Lorelai: God, reat
Us: God is good
Lorelai (losing focus): God......
Us: Let us thank him
Lorelai (totally lost in candy heaven): Uh huuuuuuh.

Yeah. She's done.

...for our food. Amen. Ok, I had to finish it. It was bothering me. ;)

Treasures in the Dresser

Lorelai's new thing is to gather objects from her room and a few things from around the house and "hide" them in her dresser drawers. Toys, books, dvd's, pacifers, Phoebe's chew things, Addy's blankets...I am scared of what I will find in there next. Old milk glasses? Dirty diapers? Checking these drawers is now a daily habit. That odd cutie.

Introduction

This blog will be a supplement to my main blog, Living the Lewis Lifestyle. I want a central location to document those special moments with my kids; the moments I want to remember and record for later in life. This will not be the everyday happenings with my children, that will still be logged in my main blog. This is a place to log their moments of pure innocence, endearment, humor, wit, and wisdom.

-Matthew 18

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (NIV)
Matthew 19:14

I am not one to quote the bible at people, but this passage has special meaning to me. It was read aloud at friend's funeral last March. The minister compared it to my friend, for she was a preschool teacher; as was I. She loved the children in her classes, she surrounded herself with kids and dedicated her time to loving and teaching them. She loved and lived life through the eyes of children.
This spoke to me. I walked away from his sermon knowing I was ready for another baby. I, too, have spent the greater part of my life surrounded by children, and I feel it is my calling to continue to do so. To see life through the eyes of a child is one of the greatest gifts you can receive. Here is how my children see life...
